There are many things which you could say are quintessentially British.
Bacon and Eggs.Queueing. Discussing the weather.
Whilst there are many other examples of things we have adopted which are now considered as native to our country.
Curry. A doner kebab.Ketchup. St George.
Something else which the Brits have adopted as our own in recent years is the Staycation.
We all know the stereotypical image of the Brit abroad.
Union jack shorts, a pint in one hand and a full English in the other, swearing and shouting as they walk down the street.
Jetting off on a late deal to the Canaries or the Balearics for a fortnight in the summer holidays with their kids in tow – we all can picture the scene.
But the economic recession changed this somewhat, and now us Brits are a nation who loves to stay at home and appreciate some of the gems of these Isles we call home.
And what better way to do it than in a camper van, travelling from site to site, meeting new friends along the way and experiencing a raft of new cultures and experiences along the way.
Although the weather isn’t that predictable here in the UK, there are so many things to do and places to visit that it actually doesn’t matter.
And if the sun does shine, we have some of the best beaches in the world here in the UK.
At VW Camper, we saw record numbers of families booking getaways in 2015 and our fleet of vans enjoyed clocking up their miles with trips to Scotland, the Lake District, Wales, Newcastle and Cornwall as well as many other places.
We enjoyed hearing tales from customers about their hiking trips, sightseeing tours, camping escapades and BBQs, as well as traffic jams and bad weather thrown in for good measure.
See, us Brits, as much as we love a good moan, are a pretty resilient lot. We don’t mind getting sand in our sandwiches or BBQing in the rain. We love a good board game to pass the time when it’s too wet to go outside and we are well known for slapping on the factor 50 when the sun does make an appearance.
We are also lucky that here in the UK we have some world-class tourist spots which are well worth a visit, no matter what the age of the travelling party.
So if you are thinking about next year’s summer holiday (also a very British concept) and the idea of a week in the Costa del somewhere doesn’t appeal, why not speak to us about hiring out one of our brilliant camper vans.
Once you’re on the road the country is yours to discover with no restrictions on where you can go.
The perfect way to discover why being British is Great!
