What is the term “naked” for?
One way for you to be able to understand exactly what Naked DSL is all about, it’s important for you to learn what the term “naked” denotes. The term “naked” only suggests that you don’t have to pay for your landline or phone line in order for you to be connected to the internet. With traditional broadband plans, you need to have a phone line in order for you to have access to the internet. In fact, it’s very much possible that your internet plan bundles your landline with your broadband internet. Regardless of whether or not you need a phone line, you need to have one for you to be hooked to the internet. With Naked DSL, the need for a landline is completely eliminated.
How does Naked DSL work?
The copper line which is used to connect to your phone line can still be used to hook your home to the internet but the only difference is that the standard voice line service will no longer be present. This means that you will no longer be able to use the copper line to make phone calls. However, the line can still be used for connecting to the internet. Because of this, you do not have to pay for the line rental, and your monthly calls. All you have to pay for is the price for the naked broadband service.
One thing which you’re probably wondering is whether or not you can still make phone calls. You definitely can, however, you won’t be able to do with a standard phone service. On the other hand, you’d have to make use of a new voice call service which is called Voice Over the Internet (VOIP). The most popular VOIP application would have to be Skype.
But if you’re hesitant to make the switch to naked DSL because you do not want to lose the ability to pick up the handset when making phone calls, then you don’t have to worry that much. You can pick out a gadget which enables you to make phone calls just like you normally would but while using the VOIP.
