Why Do You Have an Older Version of Android?

There are three possible reasons why you do not have the latest software on your phone.

New Android versions usually have to be dealt with by manufacturers, that their own menu choices to get to. This takes time and often hangs manufacturers anywhere between a few months and half years after the latest version from Google.

The producers also does not support phones forever, so phones that are getting old will often have received their last update.  If you have not updated your phone earlier, it is very likely that there are updates ready – even if the older phones probably will not get the latest Android version.

As of this writing (April 11, 2012) is the Android 4.0.4 is the latest available version, but so far there are relatively few phones that can be upgraded to this. Android 4.0 in the various editions are also known as Ice Cream Sandwich, and 2.3 in different versions are known as Gingerbread.

To update

There are two main ways to update the Android phones. Some phones have a built-in update feature, and it is by far the easiest way to do an update. However, not all phones have this function.

If your phone has its own update feature you can find it usually in the setting menu, and it’s called usually “Check for updates” or something similar.

Before you start, it pays to make sure you have access to wireless networks so that the phone does not download the update via the mobile network. It is also important that the phone is well charged. As a rule, the phone will refuse to update itself if it has a low battery level.

If you do not have a choice to look for the update, which is common on older phones, you need to check whether there have been updates on their own. This is done using the manufacturer’s PC software.

Nor is it always you will have access to the latest software through the phone’s own update mechanism. Of the crossing because the update only for those who use PC software.  PC software can be found on the manufacturer’s website, and it must be installed on a computer with access to the internet before you go.

Generally, the PC software will find out if you have updated the software on your phone as soon as you connect. Typically you will get a message that there is new software for your phone, as well as a question if you want to download it.

You may want to backup your phone before you start, but most computer tools will also ask you to take a copy of the most important data before the update begins. The producers share even the software you need for your phone, and you do not have to have taken care of CDs and other frills of the packet.

It is mostly simple and easy to install updates on your phone. You should still be aware that the installation can take some time.  When the installation is downloaded to install it on your phone and your phone will usually start again in a separate update mode. Here it is critical that you let the phone be able to work in peace.

You should not touch any buttons or remove the battery during this process, as it may be difficult to get the phone to work again if it stops during the update. In some cases, the phone had to be sent to the workshop. Depending on your Internet connection and computer, such an update can take anywhere from five minutes to an hour. You are usually guided through the process of the phone or computer, and the reward is a phone that works better in most ways.
