Microsoft has released its new operating system, Windows 8. We still use Windows XP, but we know that if they follow their previous way of doing things, it won’t be long until Windows 8 is the only version available to purchase or upgrade too. So, we would take a look at it and see what the hoopla is all about.
It looks like there is a lot to be excited about actually.
Windows 8 primary purpose appears to be integrating devices across the board, giving us a more seamless experience as we move from our tablets, to our phones, and then to our computers. It actually has the look and feel of a Smartphone, and even the swiping functionality for touch screen computers, even though it can still be used with the classic mouse.
Start Screen
The Start Screen is laid out in tiles, or icons. Each tile is for a separate app, and the tiles can be rearranged and resized according to your personal preference. If you zoom out on the screen, you can view all of the apps at the same time, and change grouping options. The tiles are comparable to the icons on your classic desktop. The differences are that all of your applications are there, and that some of the tiles are interactive.
Interactive, live updates right on your home screen! You decide which tiles you would like to update live, and how often. Now, when you log into your computer, you can see right from the Start Screen how many emails are unread, what your friends are updating on Facebook or Twitter, what is the temperature going to be today, how much money you made at the Stock Market today, and much more. All without having to actually open that app! This seems to be the epitome of convenience to me.
New Apps
New apps are being added to the new Windows App Store on an almost hourly basis. Since Windows Apps are written using C, C++, HTML, JavaScript and VP.Net, programmers are able to get these products developed and running in a minimum of time. In fact, Keith Lorizio, Vice-president of U.S. Sales and Marketing at Microsoft state that by January 2013, the Windows App Store should have 100,000 apps available.
Using SkyDrive, Microsoft’s cloud programming, you will be able to set all of your devices up the same. So, your Microsoft Smartphone will look the same when you unlock it as your computer. Updates to a program on your Tablet will automatically travel to your PC. Talk about a seamless experience! When you write something in Office 2013, it automatically saves to SkyDrive and updates to all of your other devices! Of course, you have to have a Microsoft account in order to use this function, but it is free and does grant access to a plethora of possibilities!
Overall, Windows 8 is a paradigm shift in usability for Windows users, but a much more streamlined and convenient system. Take a look for yourself; I think you will like it.
