Chances are one of the reasons you purchased window blinds was because they were low maintenance. Stylish? Undoubtedly. Practical? Definitely. But they are also a lot easier to clean than elaborate draperies and finicky curtains. In as little as a few minutes, you can clean your blinds and let light reinvigorate your space.

 

Here are five insanely efficient ways to have your blinds looking beautiful in no time.

 

1) Vacuum

 

You know that soft brush head that sits around collecting cobwebs? Time to use it to bust some dust. Attach it to your vacuum nozzle, and lightly run it over your blinds, paying particular attention to each slat. This will remove any loose dust and dirt quickly and easily

 

2) A Duster

 

Any soft duster will do, but a lambswool duster is the best, since its fibres act like a magnet, attracting dirt and dust with no aggressive (and potentially damaging) scrubbing. Simply run it over and under your blinds and you’re done.

 

3) Soft Gloves

 

Here’s a great idea if your blinds are particularly gungy and dusting just won’t do. Grab a pair of soft gloves, like Magic Gloves, as well as a mixture of all-purpose soap and warm water (one part soap for four parts water). If you don’t have gloves, just use a soft sock.

 

Next, dip your gloved hand into the solution, and make a fist to squeeze out any extra moisture. (Your glove should be damp, not soaking wet.) Starting at the top, run your index finger over the top of each slat, while simultaneously running your thumb over the bottom. When you’re done, use a gentle, lint-free cloth to dry each slat to remove excess moisture than can leave unsightly water spots.

 

Note: Do not use all-purpose soap and water on wood blinds!

 

4) Coconut Oil

 

If your wood blinds are in need of a good clean, just rub coconut oil into each slat, being mindful to move with the grain. Use a soft, lint-free cloth to get a polished, perfect finish. In addition to cleaning, coconut oil also puts moisture back into the wood, instead of stripping it away like many soaps can.

 

5) Dryer Sheet

 

Not only will a dryer sheet help remove loose dust and dirt from blinds, but running one over and under each slat will actually help repel dirt, preventing it from sticking. And you know what they say: the best defence is a good offence.
