The GMAT exam is divided into four sections:

  • Analytical writing assessment: In this section, you have one essay type question which is of 30 minutes.
  • Integrated reasoning: this section comprises of 12 questions for 30 minutes; like analytical writing assessment, this section is evaluated separately from the quantitative and verbal section. It is divided into four formats:
  1. Graphics interpretation: It tests your graphical skills; each question has pull-down menu with fill in the blanks statements.
  2. Two-part analysis: The questions involve two parts for a solution. The answers that you assume are correct are given in a table format and columns for each part and rows with possible options. Students have to choose one option per column.
  3. Table analysis: Test takers are provided with a sortable table of information, which will be similar to an (Excel) spreadsheet, which has to be analyzed and select the correct option from the table.
  4. Multi-source reasoning: Multi-source reasoning questions are followed by two to three sources of information presented on pages. Students must click on the tabs and examine all the relevant information, which may be a combination of text, charts, and tables to answer either traditional multiple-choice or opposite-answer (e.g., yes/no, true/false) questions.
  • Quantitative section: This section evaluates student’s ability for reasoning the questions, interpret graphic data, solve quantitative problems and analyze. There are two types of question formats: problem-solving and data sufficiency; the use of calculators are not allowed in this section. It consists of 37 questions; 75 minutes to complete. The math works out must be done by wet erasers on the laminated paper given by the examiners.
  • Verbal section: Reading comprehension, critical reasoning, and sentence correction are the type of questions asked in this section. It consists of 41 questions, and you get 75 minutes to complete the section. Reading comprehension covers social, physical and business topics.

Since the exams are computer-based, you cannot jump from one question to another, and you have to answer all the questions. If you have left one or two questions unanswered in the qualitative or verbal sections, it won’t make much of a difference if you guess the answers or leave them blank without answering.
