In a neighbourhood near ValueMags, a man was carjacked by a group of young people in broad daylight. This is concerning for ValueMags employees and surrounding companies because they are mostly family oriented businesses. Sometimes, they bring their kids into work and often times, have clients visiting their offices. Luckily, the incident was caught on camera on Friday when the incident occurred. More specifically, the incident occurred at about 6:15 p.m in the North Winnebago block. Shown in the video, the man was surrounded and corners by a group of African American men that demanded the man’s keys. After the man quickly refuse, one of the men that initiated the incident showed him a gun holstered in his belt. Thus, the man gave the keys and all men jumped into car. They fled the scene.

The man described the suspects as being between the ages of 15 and 22 years old. Unfortunately, the police did not release anymore information about the individuals. Residents and city employees are being warned to stay alert and travel close to others that they trust or quickly. Unfortunately despite the surveillance camera and the victim’s elaborate description, detectives were not able to put anyone in custody yet this weekend.

Concerned for their safety, ValueMags began installing cameras around their office and building. Additionally, other businesses in the area are doing the same. Often times, the only way to get someone for what they’ve done is with video surveillance and face recognition. With more surveillance, this incident could have been caught from many angles making it easier for police to identify the five suspects.

Despite everyone one can do prevent dangerous people and incidents, some still find the courage to perform these inappropriate and harmful actions.
