Let’s face it – we sometimes get tired of the same old Christmas ideas, so why not try something a little different this year if you’re organising a party. Here are 3 simple, but seriously fun, festive Christmas themed games to play with family, work colleagues or friends.
Xmas Card Couples
Use this as an excellent festive icebreaker – it’s great for any gathering where some guests don’t know each other.
How to do it:
- Collect some old Christmas cards with interesting illustrations on the front. Take each card and cut the illustration in two; you’ll need as many halves as there are guests at the party.
- Put all the card halves together in a bowl, basket, or similar container, and give them a good mix up; then, place the container near the front door or entrance, or next to the food and drink.
- When each person arrives, ask them to select one of the half-cards from the container and hold onto it.
- As people mingle, they should ask others to show their half-card to them until they meet the person with the matching half.
- You can start the game once everyone has arrived – and, if you want, assign a small prize to the first people to match up with their ‘other half’.
Human Christmas Trees
This is an ideal game for larger groups of people or at a work get-together.
How to do it:
- Once everyone has arrived, divide them into teams, and have each team choose a volunteer to act as a – Christmas tree – which the others in the team will then decorate.
- Each team should be supplied with a pair of scissors, paper, tape and aluminium foil, and possibly ribbon, or any other decorating materials that are easy to come by.
- Set a time limit of, say, 5 or 10 minutes in which each team should try and come up with the most creative or impressive human Christmas tree.
- Again, prizes can be awarded for the best decorated ‘tree’. And you might want to choose an impartial judge to make the final decision.
Gift-Wrapping Twins
A superbly fun game for teams of two or couples, and great for all ages too.
How to do it:
- First, have each couple stand side by side and then tie their ‘inside’ hands (the hands closest) together.
- Each team should be given a box, Christmas gift wrap, ribbons, tape, and a pair of scissors.
- Each couple now tries to wrap the box by using only their free hands (and not their hands tied together) and finish it off with a bow on top.
- This becomes challenging when couples are set against the clock to see who can successfully wrap the ‘present’ fastest.
