HP Pavilion p7-1187c

Desktop packages come in different flavors. Every manufacturer adds a thing or two that will make it attract more consumers. One example is the HP Pavilion p7-1187c. It has a solid $700 price for a midrange desktop but offers more than it is actually worth.

Here comes another HP Pavilion tower desktop that has the exact same appearance as the others. Some people complain that the lack of design makes their systems indistinguishable from others. It is indeed sad that HP did not make any effort into making each system a little bit unique. The Pavilion p7-1187c has the same black aluminum chassis and front panel as the other towers. The front panel has a sliding door that conceals two USB 2.0 ports and a headphone and microphone jack. It is also equipped with a DVD burner and various media card slots.

There are even more ports at the back part of the tower. There are four USB 2.0 ports and no USB 3.0 ports found there. Two of the four USB ports are also occupied by the keyboard and mouse included in the package. That still gives the user four free USB ports for use. A good thing about this system is that a Wi-Fi card is built-in inside. This reduces the need for an external receiver. An Ethernet port is still available for people who prefer an internet connection unhampered by other wireless signals.

The entire system is powered by a 300-watt power supply. This should be replaced soon if you plan on adding things such as extra hard drives, a Blu-ray drive and other peripherals. The hard drive is a decent 1TB that runs at 7200 RPM. This is already more storage than most people can handle. Some bloatware can be found on the drive but there is a silver lining. A 6-month trial version of Norton Internet Security is included. This is better than the ones installed on others that only last 1 month. There is also another piece of software called HP Linkup that can be very useful. It allows the user to remotely access their device and any other Windows 7 computer that is on the same network. This is great for accessing files that you left at home and need on your work or school pc.

Best of all, the system is equipped with an Intel Core i5 processor and 8GB of RAM. There will be no noticeable delay in most programs that you run. The integrated graphics is something you have to deal with though. Nevertheless, the system is great as it comes with a warranty that lasts two years.
